This year's selection committee chose you because of your outstanding work in nanophotonics, excellent academic record, and evident commitment to making a difference in society through your work. These are ideals that fit perfectly with the objectives of the Marconi Society. The award will be conferred at the Marconi Society Awards Dinner in Bologna, Italy on October 1, 2013, where our 2013 Marconi Prize also will be awarded. There are a number of other activities surrounding this event, beginning on Sunday, September 29th, all of which we strongly urge you to attend. These events bring together Marconi Fellows and other information and communication scientists and experts from around the world. Many of our previous years' Young Scholars also will be in attendance. The award comes with a $4,000 cash prize and up to $1,000 to cover your travel expenses to the event. Please let us know immediately if you will be able to attend. Your Advisor, Professor Capolino is also welcome to attend the awards events.
You will receive more information very shortly about the Bologna events, and we will also be setting up an interview with you for purposes of preparing a video profile and news release about your award. In the meantime, please feel free to contact Marconi Society Executive Director Hatti Hamlin at hatthamlin@comcast.net with any questions you may have. Shannon Greene (sgreene@marconisociety.org) will be happy to assist you in making your travel arrangements.
Marconi Young Scholars are individuals whose advisers and nominators believe will make a real difference in science and society, serving as role models and an inspiration for others.
